Game 5 was big. So was Matt Hager.

In leading Alabama to a crucial 3-1 victory over the Maryland Bridegrooms at Madison County Grounds today, the Alabama starter rose to the occasion, tossing 8 good innings. Hager threw 8.0 innings of 3-hit ball as the Yellowhammers defended their home field to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 Wildcard Series.

Hager was effective against the Bridegrooms, seldom allowing a hard-hit ball. The right-hander limited Maryland to just 1 run on 3 hits over 8 innings.

"They say the first rule of the playoffs is to win the home games," Hager said afterward. "It feels nice, but it is kind of what we were supposed to do."

The next game is set to be played for Saturday, October 24th , 2065 at Bridegrooms Stadium in Baltimore.
