Hits Galore: Barbier Drills 5 Hits
|
A jubilant Gérard Barbier joined the postgame press conference at Toronto Field today to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Toronto Blue Jays pitching staff he had just vanquished.
"It may not have looked like it," said the Pittsburgh Crawfords left fielder, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."
That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-8 hitting performance, which led the Crawfords to a 6-5 win.
"He made it look easy," said , manager of the Blue Jays. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."
Gérard Barbier singled in the 1st, struck out in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Otte Quak in the 5th, flied out in the 7th, flied out in the 10th, singled in the 12th, singled in the 14th and singled in the 16th.
Presently Barbier is batting .379 with 2 home runs and 6 RBIs. He has played in 17 games and scored 8 times.
