Ruiz Struts Stuff in Win Over Alabama
The Alabama Yellowhammers had no answer today for New York Empire pitcher Jose Ruiz. They failed to score a single run against him, losing 8-0. Alabama managed only 8 hits off Ruiz, who had 4 strikeouts.

The extraordinarily popular Ruiz got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.

"Empire fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."
