Reign Come Back Late to Top Railroaders, 9-7
|
The Pennsylvania Railroaders inaugurated the 2071 campaign with a disappointing 9-7 loss to the Washington Reign at PNC Park. Washington first baseman Estevan Garsia had a big impact on the outcome. He was 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The winner was Steve Lazenby in relief. His record improves to 1-0. David Litz took the loss. Matt Fields was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.
Had Joe Cortez not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Cortez hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 8-7, in favor of the Reign.
"I'm just out there trying to have as much fun as I can while I'm playing," Cortez told the Washington Observer.
