Empire Drop Railroaders, 9-6
|
Luis Martinez did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Pennsylvania Railroaders from being beaten, 9-6, to the New York Empire at PNC Park. Martinez was 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. New York pitcher Ralph Johns got the win, upping his record to 3-0. Jason Toth got the loss. Pat Delaney recorded the save for New York, his 8th of the season.
Antonio Rincones had a big bases-clearing double for the Empire in the top of the second inning. With New York trailing 3-2 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 33-year old left-handed pitcher Jason Toth and swatted a double to right. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Empire ahead, 5-3.
"We'll keep playing hard and let the chips fall where they may," said New York manager Richard Hager.
Early on, the Empire, at 11-2, have excelled.
