The New Mexico Danger withstood an impressive performance by Minnesota shortstop Wai-ho Zhai to defeat the Mallards, 5-4, at The Danger Zone. Zhai was 2 for 2 with 2 doubles and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. New Mexico reliever Antonio Ruiz picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Ben Kaiser took the loss. Justin Wright nailed down his 5th save.

Casey Maiden, who is a three-time All-Star, came through for New Mexico with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh. The left fielder went 2 for 4 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 2 runs and collected 2 RBI.

"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said New Mexico manager Jeff Hoffman. "It's usually not just one thing."

New Mexico, now 10-5, has played well in the early going.
