Railroaders Net 7-6 Win Over Empire
|
The Empire was the site of an exciting ballgame between the Pennsylvania Railroaders and New York Empire.
Pennsylvania Railroaders starter Bernie Custello was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the New York Empire, 7-6. Custello, now 3-1, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 7, walking 4, and allowing 3 runs. Lysander Kalergi collected save number 2.
Luis Martinez, the four-time All-Star , had a direct impact on the outcome. Martinez contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put Pennsylvania up, 5-3.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Martinez, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
New York now has a record of 13-13.
