The Minnesota Mallards got a sterling performance from pitcher Julian Nichols, but the New Jersey Athletics still prevailed, 5-3. Nichols threw 7.2 innings of 3-hit ball. Paul Torr recorded his 9th save for New Jersey. The Athletics are now 17-18, while the Mallards fall to 12-23.

New Jersey took a 5-3 lead on John Payne's 7th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Payne hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Minnesota pitcher Jon Hopkins visibly frustrated.

Payne told a New Jersey Times reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
