Athletics Lose at Home, 7-4
|
The Minnesota Mallards beat the New Jersey Athletics, 7-4, at Johnson & Johnson Field. Minnesota second baseman Jesus Vasquez had the hot bat. He was 2-4 with a home run, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. Ben Kaiser was credited with the save for Minnesota, his 5th of the season. The Mallards raised their record to 13-23.
Minnesota used a clutch at-bat from Ricky Calvillo to capture the win. The center fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Mallards ahead, 4-3. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
In postgame comments to the Minnesota Bulletin, Vasquez said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
