Resonance Sneak Past Explorers, 2-1
|
Oregon wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Will Gittleman, falling to the Washington Resonance, 2-1. Gittleman threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. Matt Fields notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. His record now sits at 3-0. Masanori Hayashi, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 16th save.
Gerald Merz was 1 for 4. He drove in 2 runs for Washington. With two out and the game tied in the bottom of the eighth inning, Merz, who finished 3rd in the FL in hits with 169 last year, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Oregon hurler Valentyn Quarenta, he hit a 2-run single to give the Resonance a 2-0 lead.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Resonance manager Larry Gomberg, "I like our chances."
The last-place Resonance have won 4 straight games.
