Dismal Day for Empire, 15-2 Losers to Maryland
|
The Maryland Bridegrooms defeated the New York Empire, 15-2, in part because of first baseman Art Burke. Burke belted 2 home runs, while scoring 4 and driving in 5 for the Bridegrooms. Austin Garner earned the win for Maryland. He lasted 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 4. With the win, he raised his record to 7-3. Colter Delgado, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save.
Tim Thomas had a big bases-clearing double for the Bridegrooms in the top of the first inning. With Maryland leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a slider from fireballing 6' 7" left-hander Ralph Johns and swatted a double to right. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Bridegrooms ahead, 4-0.
"That was awful," fumed losing manager Richard Hager, post-game.
Maryland leads the Patriot League North by 7 games.
