New York Beats North Carolina, 3-2
|
In a tight contest at The Empire, the New York Empire edged the North Carolina Aviators by the score of 3-2. New York first baseman Steve Miller Jr., who blasted 2 home runs, was a key contributor. Pat Delaney picked up the win in relief for New York, while Mike Hill took the loss. Mark Davidson closed the game out for New York, earning his 17th save.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Justin Poirier came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing North Carolina pitcher Mike Hill, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting New York on top, 3-2.
Poirier said the team appreciates the support from the fans. "I'm glad we could reward them with a good win," he said after the game.
The 4th-place Empire lifted their record to 40-37.
