The New York Empire topped the Maryland Bridegrooms, 5-2, in Patriot League action at The Empire. The game was highlighted by the performance of New York pitcher Ralph Johns. The winning pitcher was Johns, now 4-2. He tossed 7.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 7. The win for the Empire lifted their record to 44-41.

Had Antonio Rincones not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Rincones hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Empire.

"We did a lot of things right," said Johns.
