Athletics Rally For Late Win Over Yellowhammers
|
Johnson & Johnson Field was the site of a remarkable pitchers' duel.
The New Jersey Athletics picked up a win at Johnson & Johnson Field, knocking off the Alabama Yellowhammers, 2-1. Starting pitcher Glen Duncan was a big reason why. In 8 innings, Duncan surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Jim Schlenker recorded the save, making him 25 for 30.
Jamie Gerdes played a key role in the win. The New Jersey first baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, Gerdes went 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"Winning is always a team effort," Gerdes said after the game.
The second-place Athletics have a record of 51-40.
