4-2 Loss Extends Illinois Skid
|
The Minnesota Mallards got a strong performance from pitcher Willie Salazar, who stymied the Illinois offense en route to a win, 4-2, at Todd Berry Memorial Field. In 6.2 innings, Salazar surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Ben Kaiser converted his 16th save in 19 tries.
Minnesota used a well-timed hit by Joe Martin to capture the win. The catcher socked a 2-run double in the top of the second inning to put the Mallards ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
After the game, Minnesota manager applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
Illinois has now lost 6 in a row.
