Salgado Hits 2 home runs in Empire Win
|
The 8-5 New York win over Ohio was due in large part to Tony Salgado. The Empire first baseman went 2 for 5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 6 runs and scored twice. Ralph Johns got the win, improving to 6-2. He worked 6.1 innings, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. The win puts New York at 54-49 this season.
Salgado contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for New York in the top of the third. With his team trailing 4-1, Salgado took a curveball from Dave Utley and stroked the home run to left-center. His 9th home run of the season allowed the Empire to leap in front, 5-4.
"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said New York skipper Richard Hager.
