Resonance Turn Back Empire, 2-1
|
In a tight game between the Washington Resonance and the New York Empire, pitcher Mike Aviles was terrific on the mound. The Washington right-hander helped his team to the 2-1 win. Aviles went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 7. His record improves to 9-8. Masanori Hayashi was credited with the save, his 32nd in 35 tries.
Washington shortstop Garrett Wilhelm contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a fastball into left field for a run-scoring single. It was his 87th hit of the season and put the Resonance ahead, 2-1.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said New York manager Richard Hager. "The effort was great."
With the win, Washington raised its record to 60-55.
