Bridegrooms Win at Ohio, 4-1
|
The Maryland Bridegrooms beat the Ohio Knights, 4-1, at Huntington Park. Starting pitcher Al West was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. West, the winner, moves to 14-9. He threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up 1 walk. Maryland is now riding a 3-game win streak.
In the top of the second, Willie Cuevas turned a fastball from Ed Gillberry into a 2-run home run to left-center. It put Maryland on top, 2-0. For the game, Cuevas was 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"Being able to play a game for a living is one thing. Being able to play it well and contribute to a win is even better," Cuevas told the Maryland Chronicle.
