Madison County Grounds was the site of a remarkable pitchers' duel.
The New York Empire did just enough to secure a victory over the Alabama Yellowhammers, 1-0, at Madison County Grounds. Nobody did more than pitcher Tony MacGruder. The losses continue to mount for Alabama, which has now dropped 6 in a row.
New York used a well-timed hit by Michael Joy to capture the win. The second baseman socked a run-scoring double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Empire ahead, 1-0. Though it was his only hit in 2 at-bats, it was important.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Alabama skipper Liam Maroney.
