Steelheads Pin 7-1 Loss on North Carolina
|
North Carolina had no answer for Idaho Steelheads starter Nick Long, who flummoxed Aviators hitters as the Steelheads cruised to victory, 7-1. Long, now 3-13, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 6, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. The third-place Aviators have lost 4 consecutive games.
Jared Pierce had a big 2-run double for the Steelheads in the bottom of the second inning. With Idaho leading 2-1 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a sinker from 25-year old right-handed pitcher Manny Aguilar and swatted a double to left. It was his 29th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Steelheads ahead, 4-1.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Steelheads manager Lawrence Tabachnick, "I like our chances."
