Athletics Prevail, 2-1, Over Maryland
|
Behind an impressive start by Bill Chapman, New Jersey beat Maryland, 2-1. César Martínez earned his 4th save in 7 chances. With the win, New Jersey upped its record to 69-68.
New Jersey shortstop Jesús Hernández contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a fastball into center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 61st hit of the season and put the Athletics ahead, 2-1.
Hernández attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
