Railroaders Lose By a Run at New Jersey
|
Pennsylvania pitcher Harry Paul gave the Athletics all they could handle, but in the end, New Jersey left Johnson & Johnson Field with a win, 2-1. Paul allowed 2 runs on 1 hit over 7 innings. The winning pitcher was Omar Cruz. He tossed 91 pitches over 6 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits. Paul Torr picked up the save for New Jersey, his 28th of the year.
The Athletics got a big at-bat from designated hitter Joe Swanson. For the game, Swanson was 1 for 3 with a home run. In the bottom of the third, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 10th home run of the season gave New Jersey a 2-1 lead.
"I like the vibe in the clubhouse after a win," said Swanson. "It sure beats the alternative."
The third-place Athletics now have a win-loss record of 67-70.
