Empire Tag Blue Pirates with 2-1 Loss
|
In a tight game between the New York Empire and the Ontario Blue Pirates, pitcher Tony MacGruder was terrific on the mound. The New York right-hander helped his team to the 2-1 win. Mark Davidson picked up the save for New York, his 35th of the year. New York now owns a record of 70-78.
New York used the timely hitting of Miguel Valerio to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Empire on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Valerio told the New York Herald.
