Knights Nip Lions, 2-1
|
For the home crowd, it was a thrilling walk-off win.
Ohio Knights starter Ed Gillberry hurled his team past the Kentucky Lions, 2-1. Tim Allen, now 3-0, was credited with the win. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 0.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Ohio first baseman David Melo, facing Derek Davidson, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Knights the 2-1 win.
"Bottom line," said Kentucky skipper , "we didn't play well enough to win."
The Lions, now 70-78, have lost 6 in a row.
