Steelheads Come Up Short at New Jersey, 3-2
|
New Jersey right-hander Éric Rossi pitched his team to victory over the Idaho Steelheads at Johnson & Johnson Field. The final score was 3-2. Jim Schlenker, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 40th save. The win for the Athletics raised their record to 77-76.
Joe Powell had a big 2-run home run for the Athletics in the bottom of the fifth inning. With New Jersey leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from Josh Larson and swatted a home run to right-center. It was his 27th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Athletics ahead, 3-0.
"I just tried to make good contact," said Powell.
