Bridegrooms Snatch Late-Game, 5-4 Win
|
Washington got a terrific game from designated hitter Jorge Barrera. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Maryland, 5-4, in 10 innings. Barrera went 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The win elevated the Bridegrooms to 84-77.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Javier Torres? The former first round draft pick Torres stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put Maryland up, 5-4. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Torres. "You've got to get results."
