It's Over: Mallards Stop Byrd Sunday, May 28th , 2056 For 20 straight games, Dan Byrd tried to ignore his hitting streak. It wasn't easy. Well, the 22-year-old Illinois Warhawks catcher can forget about it now -- it's over, courtesy of the Minnesota Mallards. The Mallards held him hitless in 4 at-bats at Todd Berry Memorial Field today and snapped his consecutive-game hitting string at 20. There was at least one good note to the end of the streak, however, as the Warhawks took the win by the score of 3-2. "I tried to ignore it for weeks, but you guys in the media wouldn't let me," he joked with reporters after the game. "I'm looking forward to some peace and quiet now." So far this season Byrd is batting .295 with 4 home runs, 20 RBIs and 28 runs scored. He has 46 hits in 156 at-bats, 13 walks and a .358 OBP. Byrd has played in 37 games. |
