Hollers Stop Pelan at 23
Wednesday, September 18th , 2041
Late in the game, all eyes in New River Ballpark were on Bubba Pelan as he stepped into the batter box. His 23-game hitting streak was on the line, and he had a zero in the hit column on the day. Sadly for Pelan, it was not meant to be -- the zero would stay and the streak would end.
If there was a silver lining for Pelan today, it was that his Pennsylvania Railroaders won the game anyway, stopping the West Virginia Hollers by the score of 3-2.
"Winning took some of the disappointment out of it," Pelan told reporters in the clubhouse. "Looking back on it, it was a great experience. Not too many players can say they had a hit in 23 straight games. It's something I will always remember."
This season Pelan is hitting at a .309 pace with 9 home runs, 69 RBIs and has scored 69 times.
