No Hits for Thornton, Streak Ends at 21
Friday, September 11th , 2043
For 21 straight games, Doug Thornton tried to ignore his hitting streak. It wasn't easy.

Well, the 28-year-old West Virginia Hollers center fielder can forget about it now -- it's over, courtesy of the New Jersey Athletics. The Athletics held him hitless in 2 at-bats at Johnson & Johnson Field today and snapped his consecutive-game hitting string at 21.

There was at least one good note to the end of the streak, however, as the Hollers took the win by the score of 3-2.

"I tried to ignore it for weeks, but you guys in the media wouldn't let me," he joked with reporters after the game. "I'm looking forward to some peace and quiet now."

This season Thornton has banged out 183 hits in 515 at-bats for a .355 average with 11 home runs. He is getting on base at a .381 pace and his totals also include 65 RBIs and 91 runs scored.
