Hollers Win Wildcard Series Sunday, October 15th , 2045 West Virginia catcher Reginald Thompson couldn't hide his reaction when asked about being named MVP of the Wildcard Series. "It's a nice honor," he said, failing to suppress a wide smile. The trophy was presented to Thompson moments after his club eliminated the New Jersey Athletics to advance to the League Championship Series. West Virginia won the final game by a score of 4-1 at New River Ballpark and took the series 4-2. "We won the series and that's the main thing," Thompson said. "They were a tough team and we didn't want to take anything for granted." For the series, Thompson hit .375 with a .385 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, drove in 7 RBI and scored 4 runs. "He was tough to stop and that's a big reason they're there and we're here," said a dejected New Jersey manager .
