West Virginia's Thornton Goes Ballistic with 5 Hits Saturday, July 27th , 2047 Doug Thornton had an answer for everything the Virginia Diamond Club threw at him today at Ebbetts Field South at Virginia Beach Diamond Club. The West Virginia right fielder went 5-for-6 in the game to put his name in the record book and put the Hollers on top, 16-3. Summing up his batting philosophy to BNN writers after the game, Thornton said, "I just see the ball and I hit it." Doug Thornton singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, struck out in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Ferry van Campen in the 6th, doubled in the 7th and singled in the 8th.
