Vélez Raps Maryland for 5 Hits Thursday, July 2nd , 2048 It doesn't happen very often, but it did for António Vélez today -- a 5-hit effort. He went on a rampage at Ebbetts Field South at Virginia Beach Diamond Club and paced the Diamond Club to a 12-3 win over the Maryland Bridegrooms. After his dynamite batting performance, the Virginia third baseman told reporters that he "just tried to get in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control." His philosophy paid dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 5 tries and put his name in the record book. António Vélez singled in the 2nd, doubled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 6th and singled in the 8th. In the 2048 season Vélez is hitting .339 with 5 home runs.
