League Suspends Miranda and Nieves for Brawl Saturday, July 23rd , 2050 Yesterday at PNC Park Orlando Miranda and José Nieves got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Pennsylvania Railroaders and Maryland Bridegrooms. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Miranda will have to sit out 4 while Nieves would be given a 9-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. Miranda is batting at a .267 pace this season, picking up 101 hits in 378 at-bats with 5 home runs, 34 RBIs and 58 runs scored. So far this year Nieves has compiled a 1-8 record with a 7.13 ERA. |
