Rowdy Players Suspended by League Tuesday, August 2nd , 2050 Yesterday at Arlington Park Ronnie Major and Steve Thompson got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Texas Spurs and Arizona Vipers. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Major will have to sit out 6 while Thompson would be given a 4-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. Major has collected 117 hits for the Spurs this year, 16 of them home runs. He has also netted 66 RBIs and scored 57 runs while batting .292. This year Thompson has pitched 75.2 innings over 17 relief appearances, picking up no saves and held opponents to a .190 average. Thompson has a 2-5 record with a 5.95 ERA and 65 strikeouts. |
