Birmingham Sweeps into the League Championship Series Saturday, September 23rd , 2056 Many baseball pundits expected a close series in the East Wildcard Series. It turned out quite a bit different. The Birmingham Vulcans swept aside the Fresno Grizzlies to advance to the League Championship Series, winning the final game by a 8-3 score at Vulcans Park. The series MVP was first baseman Mauro MartÃnez, who hit .444 with a .615 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, drove in 5 RBI and scored 5 runs. "We expected this series to go right down to the wire, so to sweep is a bit of a surprise," he said. "But we'll take it." The Birmingham Vulcans will play against the Cleveland Attack in the next round. Cleveland had a bye in the Wildcard Series.
