Velayas Tags Cobras for 5 Hits Thursday, September 11th , 2059 It was a good day for the Rapids at Cobras Park as they clipped the Glendale Cobras, 22-6. It was tremendous day for Steve Velayas, who was on a hitting barrage at the plate, finishing 5-for-7. "I don't know what to call that," the Idaho Falls first baseman told reporters after his big performance. "I'm not 'dialed in' or 'in a zone,' I just try to keep it simple. Basically the pitcher throws the ball, I try to pick up the spin, then I hit it. Today I picked up the spin pretty well." Steve Velayas singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, flied out in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a three-run double in the 7th, hit an RBI single in the 9th and flied out in the 9th. This season Velayas is swinging the bat at a .285 pace. He has hit 5 home runs and scored 23 times, while driving in 21. His on-base percentage is .341 and he has played in 49 games. View Boxscore |
