Spartans End Mori's Streak Saturday, August 3rd , 2047 Colorado Springs shortstop Takeji Mori came into today's game against the San Diego Spartans on a hot streak. He left on a cold one. The Spartans did their jobs well, beating the Colorado Springs Avalanche 8-3 and holding Mori hitless to snap his 20-game hitting streak. The 22-year-old shortstop had a few words to say after finishing 0-for-5, telling reporters only that he "came up short." "What Takeji did was exciting and quite an achievement," said Avalanche manager . "It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 20 games in a row. I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play." This season Mori is swinging the bat at a .321 rate with 145 hits in 452 at-bats. To date he has hit 11 home runs, scored 86 runs and driven in 67. |
