Beckley's Carson Goes Ballistic with 5 Hits Saturday, September 4th , 2049 Even as a kid, Eric Carson said his coaches told him the key to hitting was making contact, and letting everything else flow from there. At Crawfords Field today, Carson showed how well he learned that lesson. The 24-year-old shortstop had 5 hits in 6 at-bats for the Beckley Farmers, helping his team knock off the Pittsburgh Crawfords by a score of 34-11. "They always said, just keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing, make contact and you never know what will happen," he said. "That's all I did today." Eric Carson walked in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, flied out in the 6th, hit an RBI double in the 8th, walked in the 9th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.
