On a Roll: Martínez Hits for Cycle
Saturday, August 26th , 2051
Juan Martínez did everything he could for the Toronto Blue Jays today -- literally.

The 22-year-old center fielder hit a single, a double, a triple and a home run for the Blue Jays, going for the cycle and helping them get past the Birmingham Vulcans, 14-3, at Toronto Field.

"Yeah, I was some kind of hitter in this game," Martínez reflected later. "It was like all I had to do was close my eyes and swing the bat."

In a game headed for the record books, Martínez banged out 4 hits in 4 at-bats and totaled 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Speaking with the press about the feat, he attributed it to "a lot of luck."

"A triple is so hard to hit," he said. "To just decide to get one in a game when you need it for a cycle, it's impossible. Usually something weird has to happen, the ball kicking past an outfielder or somebody falling down. There's a ton of luck in hitting for a cycle."

Juan Martínez hit a solo-shot off Ismael Campos in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, walked in the 4th, tripled in the 5th, hit a two-run double in the 6th and walked in the 8th.

So far this season Martínez has put up a .303 batting average with 146 hits, 13 home runs and 75 RBIs.
