Smith Clobbers 3 HR Against Lincolns
Friday, June 2nd , 2056
Salem Cherries right fielder Derek Smith sensed he was going to have a good day at the plate, but he still might have underestimated it a little.
Prior to the start of today's contest with the Springfield Lincolns, Smith told teammates he was sure he would hit a home run. He did -- three times.
"During batting practice I really had my swing down pat," he recalled. "I felt some thunder in the lumber."
The big day from Smith pushed the Cherries past the Lincolns, 11-0. To go along with the homers, he collected 4 RBIs and scored 3 runs.
"I was seeing good, feeling good and swinging good," Smith told reporters after the game.
Derek Smith struck out in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Iván Ramos in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Iván Ramos in the 7th, hit a two-run home run off Jim Unknown in the 8th and grounded out in the 9th.
So far in 2056 Smith is batting .287 with 8 home runs, 28 RBIs and 26 runs scored. He has 37 hits in 129 at-bats and a .361 OBP.
