League Suspends Blake and Lay for Brawl Friday, September 13th , 2058 Yesterday at Springfield Stadium Butch Blake and Freddie Lay got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Springfield Lincolns and Salem Cherries. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Blake will have to sit out 4 while Lay would be given a 2-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. This season Lay has made 32 relief appearances and saved 1 games. His record is 1-0 with 49 strikeouts in 67.1 innings with a 5.61 ERA. |
