Water Wolves End Montenegro's Streak
Friday, May 14th , 2060
The 20-game hitting streak of Caseyville Fighter Pilots second baseman Victor Montenegro came to an end today at Water Wolves Park. The St. Cloud Water Wolves held him hitless in 3 at-bats and also sent the Fighter Pilots down to defeat, 7-3.
Later, Montenegro acknowledged to BNN reporters that the hit streak meant something to him.
"It was special," he said, "but I think other people make a bigger deal out of it than I do, or the players do. It was what we're all supposed to do; go out and hit the ball and try to score runs. It was a cool deal, but it's over now. Let's try to start a new one."
For the season, Montenegro is hitting at a .380 clip with 9 home runs, 33 RBIs and has scored 35 runs. He has 57 hits, 18 walks and a .446 on-base percentage.
