Wolves Reyes Fires No-Hitter
Friday, June 3rd , 2044
Sarasota Wolves starter Jesús Reyes said he was standing behind the mound when the scoreboard caught his eye, confirming what he already knew: He was one out from a no-hitter. For a couple of seconds, he didn't move.
"I took a breath and told myself 'This is the last one,'" Reyes recalled.
The right-hander collected himself, got the final out, and finished one of the greatest performances of his career.
The Sarasota right-hander no-hit the Gainesville Gators 8-0 at The Swamp, finishing with 3 walks and 11 strikeouts, facing only 30 batters.
"I knew for a while it was a no-hitter," Reyes admitted later. "But I really didn't worry about it until the last out. I thought I just wanted to win the game, and then I realized I wanted the no-hitter, too."
This year Reyes has compiled a 4-4 record with a 3.65 ERA in 11 starts.
