Pope Bombs 3 HR Against Omaha College Friday, April 19th , 2052 It was a day for the record books for Rochester College Swans starting pitcher Vince Pope, who walloped three out of Swans Ballpark against the Canaries. However, not even a three-homer game could prevent the Canaries from taking the 10-8 victory. "We threw some good pitches and they hit 'em, and we made some bad pitches and they hit 'em. That's a good strategy for losing ballgames," Rochester College skipper joked after the loss. Pope still had a few opportunities to celebrate along the way. He was 3-for-4 for the day, batting in 6 runs and scoring 3 times. "I never, ever thought I would hit three home runs," Pope said. "I hit three home runs once when I was 12 in Little League and I thought that was going to be the last time." Vince Pope hit a three-run home run off Bubba Lauzon in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Bubba Lauzon in the 3rd, walked in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Jim Unknown in the 7th and flied out in the 9th. Pope has fashioned a 0-5 mark for the season, 4.99 ERA and thrown 39.2 innings in 8 starts. Opposing clubs are batting .240 against him. |
