2065 UBLW Batting Crown Goes to Gomez Sunday, August 23rd , 2065 Batting titles are tough to come by. It takes a lot of talent, hard work, consistency, few slumps, good health and a little luck. Melvin Gomez of the Nebraska Terriers put it all together this year and led the West with a .307 batting average (113-for-368). The Terriers second baseman played in 99 games, ending the season with 25 doubles, 1 triple, 6 home runs, 50 runs and 34 runs batted in. "When you work hard, good things happen," Gomez explained to reporters after winning the coveted award. "Slumps happen to everyone, but you won't break out of one without hard work. I think that's one of the prime reasons for my success this season." |
