Empire Fall Short, 5-4, at North Carolina
|
The North Carolina Aviators and New York Empire obliged fans hoping for an exciting game.
The Aviators grabbed a win, 5-4, at Lowe's Field at Bojangles' Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from New York pitcher Isacco Pomardi. Pomardi went 5.2 innings and allowed 1 run. The current losing streak for New York has reached 4 games.
North Carolina took a 5-3 lead on Jonathan Weber's 27th double of the season. The bases-clearing double, which Weber hit in the bottom of the seventh, left New York pitcher Justin Durham visibly frustrated.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Weber said.
