Luis Antonio Pérez said he wanted to put all rumors that he was over the hill and couldn't compete at a high level anymore to rest. Mission accomplished.

At the age of 40, the Wilmington Eagles star was at the top of his game all season long and has won the 2065 East Most Valuable Hitter.

The veteran captured the award with a .378 batting average and a .443 on-base percentage this year. In 118 games he piled up 172 hits, 34 doubles, 3 triples, 37 home runs, 97 RBIs and 99 runs scored.

He received 20 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Patrick Morris of the Fresno Grizzlies finished second in voting, while Marc Cooper of the Wilmington Eagles finished third.
