Krebs Hitless, Stopped by Blue Jays Wednesday, August 21st , 2069 Late in the game, all eyes in Toronto Field were on Sam Krebs as he stepped into the batter box. His 26-game hitting streak was on the line, and he had a zero in the hit column on the day. Sadly for Krebs, it was not meant to be -- the zero would stay and the streak would end. If there was a silver lining for Krebs, it was that his Colorado Springs Avalanche won the game anyway, stopping the Toronto Blue Jays by the score of 4-1. "Winning took some of the disappointment out of it," Krebs told reporters in the clubhouse. "Looking back on it, it was a great experience. Not too many players can say they had a hit in 26 straight games. It's something I will always remember." In 116 games this season, Krebs has compiled a .332 batting average with 151 hits and 14 home runs. He has also scored 74 times and knocked in 78 runs. |
