Guerrero Hits for the Cycle
Saturday, June 21st , 2070
Rafael Guerrero did everything he could for the Fresno Grizzlies -- literally.
The 27-year-old shortstop hit a single, a double, a triple and a home run for the Grizzlies, going for the cycle and helping them get past the Birmingham Vulcans, 10-9, at Vulcans Park.
"Yeah, I was some kind of hitter in this game," Guerrero reflected later. "It was like all I had to do was close my eyes and swing the bat."
In a game headed for the record books, Guerrero banged out 4 hits in 5 at-bats and totaled 2 runs batted in and 3 runs scored. Speaking with the press about the feat, he attributed it to "a lot of luck."
"A triple is so hard to hit," he said. "To just decide to get one in a game when you need it for a cycle, it's impossible. Usually something weird has to happen, the ball kicking past an outfielder or somebody falling down. There's a ton of luck in hitting for a cycle."
Rafael Guerrero singled in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Danny Islas in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 5th, tripled in the 7th and grounded out in the 8th.
This season, Guerrero has 1 home run and a .353 batting average.
