McCarthy Touches All the Bases, Hits for Cycle Thursday, April 6th , 2051 Detroit HS Red Wings first baseman Alex McCarthy hit for the cycle today at Ballpark of Manhattan HS but his great game was soured as the Manhattan HS Monarchs went home victors by a score of 15-10. McCarthy accomplished the rare feat, chalking up 4 hits -- 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run -- on his way to finishing 4-for-5 with 7 RBI and 1 run. He told reporters in the postgame press conference that he did not know what he had achieved until he was informed by the Detroit HS PR staff following the game. "As long as the game is going, it's hard for me to think about anything but what is on the field," he said. "It's a nice accomplishment, I guess. I wish it had been under better circumstances." Alex McCarthy singled in the 1st, hit a two-run double in the 2nd, hit a three-run home run off Jim Taylor in the 4th, struck out in the 6th and hit a two-run triple in the 8th. This season McCarthy has hit at a .484 clip and produced 10 runs batted in, 2 home runs and 4 runs. View Boxscore |
